Graduating from Tianjin Conservatory of Music with a bachelor’s degree in classical guitar, Chen Xi is a visiting professor at the School of Music and Dancing in Honghe University in south China’s Yunnan Province. Champions of the Seventh Thailand International Guitar Competition and the Third Singapore International Guitar Competition were among the many awards Chen has reaped in domestic and international music performing arenas.An accomplished guitarist, Chen also shows her potential in music adaptation and composition. She has adapted or created quite a few works that are gaining popularity among both Chinese and international audience.Chen is also good at crossover art. She has integrated skills in playing traditional Chinese musical instruments including guzheng, pipa and erhu into performing guitar.Relying on her comprehensive and solid skills, zest for performing and subtleness in coping with tricky bits, Chen has won favor from hundreds of thousands of fans from domestic and international video platforms. Her videos recording her performances have gained more than 40 million clicks and 2 million likes.An active guitarist, Chen has been invited into performing tours in France, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand in addition to her dozens of domestic performances annually. In October, 2017, Chen was invited by the Confucius Institute in France to launch a tour featuring Chinoiserie music in four cities in France. The performances turned out to be a great success.Starting from December, 2017, Chen kicked off her classical guitar tour in universities in China. Music featuring traditional Chinese culture including theme songs and interludes from TV dramas A Dream of Red Mansions and A Journey to The West was performed and then deeply liked by her college fans. A group of college students started showing an interest toward classical guitar and traditional Chinese culture after watching Chen’s performances.“Hello Tianjin,” a news program targeting young audience launched by Tianjin TV Station, once interviewed Chen about her art perspectives. “Culture Focus,” another program by the TV station reported on Chen’s university tour promoting traditional Chinese culture. Other media institutes including china.com, qq.com, the Culture and Art Channel of Hohhot TV Station and Hunan TV Station also interviewed Chen.Chen was awarded the Best Classical Guitar Promoter in the 13th Guitar Spring Festival Gala, or the First Guitar China Award Ceremony launched at Beijing Candilicious on February 7, 2018.In August, 2019, Chen’s crossover art album (New China Music: Song of the Homebound Fisherman) collaborated with New China Music of Beijing Thirteen Month Culture Communication Cowas released online. |
